Buddy Merriam, a renowned figure in the bluegrass music scene, was born on October 7, 1952, in Hartford, Connecticut. He founded the acclaimed group Buddy Merriam and Back Roads in 1980, driven by his profound admiration for traditional bluegrass. Buddy, who had the privilege of both befriending and performing with the legendary Bill Monroe, father of bluegrass music, has been a vibrant part of the genre's evolution. Celebrated for his significant contributions to Long Island's musical heritage with the "Long Island Sound Award" in 2015, he is also an accomplished author and mandolin virtuoso. With seven CDs, two books of original mandolin music, and over a thousand composed instrumentals, Buddy continues to be a pivotal force in bluegrass, hosting the popular "Blue Grass Time" radio show since 1991 and marking over 39 years with his band. His latest work includes the CD "The Farm" featuring original vocal and instrumental tunes along with favorite Bill Monroe songs.
